The library does not exist separately and independently from society, from a group of people.
Nowadays the library institution seeks its place for demonstrating its capabilities, and for building social trust in a world torn by tension, divisions and crises. On the other hand, today, the modern library has the opportunity to influence the culture and thinking of people; to play an active role in the formation of their values and attitudes towards current problems, in particular integration processes and intercultural dialogue.
On the basis of local contexts and experiences, all the participants in the consortium have found some common needs which represent both the most relevant among the organisations, and both a need that could be satisfied through a mobility. Libraries could have a strategic role, in medium and smaller towns like those in the consortium; they could provide glimpse of other different cultures through structured events/exhibitions/initiatives. There was and still there is a need of improving the transnational activities organised, the network of European contacts, and establish new collaborations.
People working in libraries should also be more aware on the planning and management processes of European projects.
